In-School Programs
The VMDC ARTS LEADERSHIP in-school and afterschool program’s mission is to offer a safe and nurturing environment which fosters positive youth development by providing structured activities that instills social and emotional development, academic enrichment, community engagement and arts and culture.
Our qualified directors and teaching artists have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in fine arts, education, human services or theater and over ten years’ experience in the arts and education field. Participants are professionally trained in all disciplines of music and dance to deepen their ability to communicate choreographic intent and advance their development as articulate and versatile artists to audition and be accepted into specialized arts-based programs and performing arts schools.
VMDC has a proven track record of implementing structured ARTS LEADERSHIP programs, which provide youth in underserved communities with a pathway to success. As a result of our tutelage, many participants’ have been accepted into specialized programs and schools to include: LaGuardia High School, Brooklyn Academy High School of the Arts, Susan McKinney High School of the Arts, Alvin Ailey Performing Arts Program, EMIA Intensive Dance Institute, Martha Graham Summer intensive, Ballet Hispanico, Move NYC, Queensboro College, Hunter College, Penn State and Morgan State University.
